Director’s Note: March Event Madness

Posted on: March 9th, 2015 No Comments

March is jammed packed with great events surrounding fashion, giving and our very anticipated Spring Showcase!I felt like with all the wonderful events and experiences going on this month I would share my quick notes on where and what you should keep a pulse on this March. The theme this month seems to be giving and caring, take a look and see for yourself.

First : March kicked off with the RUNWAY annual fundraiser event for the Princess Project of San Diego. The Princess Project is a none-for-profit locally here in San Diego. It has been dressing and accessorizing financially challenged high school teens for their proms since 2007. We host giveaways at four locations: Downtown San Diego at Westfield Horton Plaza, El Cajon Library, Vista Library and the South Chula Vista Library through dress donation. Fashion Week San Diego is looking forward to helping host a dress donation day later in the year for this great organization. Until then I encourage you to see their other upcoming events and get more details by visit the The Princess Project SD at: http://www.princessprojectsd.org/

Second: INTIMACY {bra fit stylists} and Free The Girls announced that they have proclaimed March as National Bra Fit Styling Month, in honor of Women’s History Month. March will be dedicated to educating women about the emotional and physical benefits of wearing a properly fitted bra. For National Bra Fit Styling Month, INTIMACY has partnered with Free The Girls, an organization that helps sex trafficking survivors in developing countries start their own business selling donated bras. Throughout the month, women are encouraged to donate their old bras in support of Free The Girls at any of INTIMACY’s 16 store locations across the United States, receive a complimentary bra fit styling session, and shop new arrivals just in time for spring. For National Bra Fit Styling Month, INTIMACY will give away 32 complimentary luxury lingerie sets from their premium European brands. Clients will just need to stop by the Fashion Valley Mall location to enter to win – no purchase necessary. I went in last Friday and donated two bras and left with an new one. Jules the store manager is fantastic and fun fact, she also models for our designer A’doreus. So go #GetBraFit this month! Third: Spring Showcase on March 14th is now SOLD OUT! I hope you were the lucky one to register and snag some tickets. If not don’t fear, just learn that you can’t wait to the last minute with FWSD events. Tickets for the BIG RUNWAY week in October go on PRE-SALE MARCH 16TH. Make sure you get them before they sell out. This year I’m thrilled to say majority of our designers are from our very own backyard, San Diego. I like to think this is because the years of growing this event and industry here are paying off with more local designer participation and entrepreneurism in fashion. This year’s runway shows are Sept. 30th to Oct. 4th, 2015. As a easy trick, FWSD runway shows are always the 1st week of October every year 🙂 I look forward to sharing the recap photos and video of Spring Showcase 2015 with you all.
