Fashion Week San Diego is excited to have Ashley Raymond launch her first collection on our runway.  Designer Ashley Ann Barno grew up in a close-knit family in San Diego. Her parents came to the United States in 1968 from Alqosh, Iraq. Her father has been the cornerstone of her success and sense of ambition, and is also the inspiration for the line. Barno’s cultural roots oftentimes appear as stylistic elements of her unique designs.

As a little girl, she knew she wanted to be a designer.  She began sketching as early as high school. During this time, she was dazzled by the brides of the weddings she frequented on the weekends. It was then she became inspired to focus on formal wear and wedding gowns.

Enrolling in design school was an organic next step for Ashley. She graduated from FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in 2006 with her degree in fashion design and continued on to acquire her Bachelor’s in Marketing from California State Northridge. Barno then took her skills and talents to Los Angeles, where she specialized in high-end formal retail operations for various designers in Beverly Hills.

The first Ashley Raymond collection will launch, in San Diego, on the Fashion Week San Diego 2013 Runway.

For my brother’s wedding, in 2004, I designed my own gown. Prior to this day, I had never received so many compliments on a gown I had worn. I loved the way I felt. That day was when I decided I wanted to pursue a career in fashion and help women feel the way I felt that day.
