Cheers to 10 Years & FWSD17 Winning Designers

Three Cutting-Edge Designers Showcase Talents and Win Big on the Runway


#FWSD17 featured 18 talented designers, who sparked imagination and creativity among the 3,000+ people who attended, the largest attendance to date. Southern California’s biggest fashion event, held Oct. 6 and 7 with pre-events starting on Oct. 4, announced three winners during the trunk show on Oct. 8, crowning Baza as the winner of FWSD 2017, with Haus of K2 in second and Territa Torres in third place.

Best known for her highly detailed embroidery in elegant gowns, Baza showcased bright dresses and stunning star blouses featuring sequins. With a career in systemic engineering and recently turned fashion designer, Haus of K2 used a blend of his Indian roots to produce modern and feminine designs. Territa Tores produced beautifully pleated works of art that speak to her work ethic and her devotion to making her pieces not just chic, but also an everyday item.

“Celebrating 10 years of fashion, this year’s runway shows were unlike any other,” said Allison Andrews, founder and director of FWSD. “The designers showcased some of their best work yet, demonstrating their ability to push the envelope on fashion ‘norms,’ with They&Them proving that even a fashion label does not need to adhere to a specific sex or identity. I am extremely proud of the three winners and am looking forward to witnessing their success from Fashion Week San Diego propel them into new opportunities around the world.”

Other highlights from the show include Hulabelle Swimwear, a line designed for women who have undergone surgeries associated with breast cancer. Having fought breast cancer herself, Dana Dinerman wanted to create swimwear that women of all shapes and sizes, and who may have surgery scars, could feel confident and beautiful in. During the runway show on Saturday, two breast cancers survivors modeled Hulabelle Swimwear, celebrating their bodies and the fight against cancer.

Additionally, Bryan Vaughn showcased VaughnBerry, a menswear line utilizing textures typically seen in women’s clothing. Rustic, and meticulously handcrafted details combined with unique techniques in construction, evoke luxury in the menswear, while versatile silhouettes bring an androgynous style and uniqueness to men’s fashion.
